God’s Grace Has Already Been at Work

Long before you arrived here, God was already pursuing you.
The Bible teaches about Prevenient Grace—the grace of God that reaches us before we ever reach for Him.

Grace is God’s freely given love, mercy, and help. It cannot be earned or deserved; it is His gift to us.

Prevenient grace is the work of God’s Holy Spirit preparing our hearts, awakening our souls, and giving us the freedom to respond to His invitation. Perhaps you’ve sensed God drawing you throughout your life. Maybe you’ve experienced moments that caused you to ask deeper questions, or perhaps this is the first time you’ve ever heard the term prevenient grace.

Whatever brought you here, know this:

God has been working in your life all along.

John Wesley beautifully described prevenient grace as the front porch of a house. Before someone enters through the front door, they first stand on the porch. Likewise, before we experience salvation through Jesus Christ, God lovingly prepares our hearts through His grace, inviting us to come closer.

Theologically, prevenient grace is often described as God’s unearned assistance that overcomes the effects of sin enough to give every person the genuine freedom to accept or reject His offer of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Unlike many other theological concepts, prevenient grace emphasizes that God’s invitation is extended to everyone. His grace is already at work in people’s lives—even before they recognize it.
